Egebjerg Christmas Tree
In Egebjerg, Odsherred municipality in Denmark, we have a very active and enthusiastic local community. Many ideas are flourishing here, with a lot of small groups working voluntarily on different ideas and projects. All organized through our local town-council: Egebjerg Bylaug. One group, is the local Christmas-board. They came up with the idea , that we need our very own Christmas decorations out in the countryside, because we have very dark roads around here in the wintertime. A local artist and designer: Hans Henrik Ohlers joined the board, and developed a sturdy design and anchoring system, so these trees could be installed trouble free every year, and stay safe from wind and snow. Installation and power-supply is all organized on a collaborative, voluntary basis. A few years later he also developed a smaller version, to be sold to private households. Vandrenden
Vand Plus
This Park is located in the vicinity of Gladsaxe open air swimmingpool. It is part of a climate change program, called Vand Plus that focus on the combination of flooding management and public recreational qualities in the constructed water retaining systems. Thus, this sculptural landscape is designed to withhold large amounts of rainwater, in case of floods and huge rainfalls, and at the same time severeral recreational concepts and ideas are integrated in the shape of the landscape. Kinda like a landart project, with integrated sculptural play.facilities. We recycle the rainwater through a BioFilter pond, and the filtrated rainwater is reused in a complex Water-sculpture, called Geysir. Other recreational installations include a very popular inflated dome, an open air gym, a huge nested swing, that reside over a huge bowl in the landscape, an alternative, oval ballplay field, and a sandbox for the smaller kids. The cafe inside the residing bulding is serving coffee and snacks, which can be enjoyed on the terrace, and the dome shaped pavilion here will give shade in hot summers, as the Vines grow dense. 2014-2016 Sculptural landscape design with installations. link to map link to process

Hans Henrik Øhlers
Sculptor · Designer · Innovator Hi, and welcome ! For more than 20 years I have specialised in custom designed commissions. You tell me about a project, and my brain is immediately firing up with ideas and inspirations. As much as I love to make really beautiful stuff, I also like Art to be unpretentious, to be touched, played with, and stand the wear and tear of time, weather and playful kids. Trust me, nothing wears down a structure like the daily use from happy children. To solve this, I have developed and invented materials and building techniques, that are both tough and durable, and yet allow for fluid and organic shapes. I experiment with forms and designs that yield high level of play quality, challenge and fun, and I am a big fan of facilitating childrens ability to experience what we in the playground business call “contemplated moments of risk” . Those moments are extremely developmental to childrens nervous system and general vitality and health. Artistically, I am deeply and profoundly inspired by Natures intelligence, and the subtle feelings of flow and feminine grace. I am actually very proud of being able to combine all these qualities, without compromising any of them, and I sincerely hope you will enjoy my work. Climb up, dive in, and feel the space within the ondulating shapes and spiraling curves. ….. I know lots of people today worry about the safety within our public playgrounds. And I can respect that. Each project is carefully designed and checked for safety measures according to international safety standards. ( EN 1176 – 2008 ) I also like to respect a clients budget. I will always ask you what you want first, and then how much you would like to spend on it. I will try my best to find ways and solutions to meet you with ideas and offer suggestions, that is possible within that budget. This is an unconventional way around it, I know, but as I often argue: I can develop ideas in all directions, so I need some kind of framework to work within. It usually works really fine, mostly through honest, transparent dialogue. I honestly prefer my ideas and designs to be uniquely adapted into a specific location and purpose, so don’t hold back. Tell me what you wish for, and I will do my absolute best to meet you, or beyond. My preferred material is Ferrocement. A cementitious composite, at first glance really simple, but when you look closer; genious! It’s a mix of a core, hand-shaped steel rebar mesh, with several layers of fine steel mesh on either side, and then creamy, high density concrete is gently massaged into the mesh, covering all steel surfaces, and gluing it all together into a strong and sturdy matrix, with high abrasive resistance. You can see more of this under “PROCESS” in the menu. I am super nerdy about this, and I absolutely love it ! From what I have learned in all these years, Ferrocement is the perfect material for organic designed architecture, water features, garden installations and playground sculptures. Any project you throw at me will be well taken care of. Ideas and suggestions for your project will be drawn and presented in 3D and discussed in detail via online meetings. Larger projects will be structurally analysed, using parametric engineering software. If needed, I can provide you with Structural Reports issued by authorised engineer, and Playground Safety Certificate ( EN 1176 – 2008 ) , issued by Nordic Playground Institute. You are very welcome to contact me with any suggestions or special commissions you may wish for ! Let’s do this ! Ohlers Aps (2015) CVR DK-36902639 Ohlers Design (2003) CVR DK-26949122
